Leo Norman and Mike Folse - History of the Bell AH-1 Cobra
Mike and Leo described the history of the AH-1 Cobra. The Cobra was an adaptation of the UH-1 drive train. Mike Folse developed a conceptual sketch of an attack helicopter. Although his supervisor wasn’t initially interested in the sketch, a senior manager noticed it, authorized fabrication of a prototype, and less than 6 months later the concept took flight. The Cobra withstood stiff competition from other manufacturers during its development and has seen operational service for over 45 years.
